The Original Thirteen Colonies of Northern America!

SUMMARY

During America’s first 150 years, most of the settlers came from Great Britain. … that became what are commonly called the “Original Thirteen Colonies of northern and central parts of North America.

The British empire, settled in America first in 1606,

in Jamestown,Virgina.

European nations came to the Americas to increase their wealth and broaden their influence over world affairs.

Coming to a strange land and trying to make a new startwas difficult for the colonists.

The Pilgrims at Plymouth colony survived the first

difficult year with help from the local native American population.

The natives taught the settlers how to plant and care for indigenous

crops such as corn. In the fall 1621,

the Pilgrims and the local native Americans

celebrated a good harvest and observed the first Thanksgiving.

The Pilgrims gave thanks for new opportunities and new freedoms.

And in time the colonies grow with more new settlers and there were no homes for many of them.

Many of the new settlers sought protection from the elements,

in caves that native Americans shared with them or abandoned by native Americans

or made huts, made of branches and sod to survive.

As well as surviving they also brought with them different customs, religious beliefs, and dialects.

And one of these reasons why the English settlers came to the colonies was the

chance to own land and have a new life.

New economic opportunities open up because of the vast expanse

of land available for farming. In the Northern colonies, the abundance of natural resources

permitted the development of trades such as ship building and iron mining.

Fur trading and fishing also played significant role in the colonial economy.

And some of the settlers looked beyond the Appalachian Mountains,

which was owned by the French, In the mid- 1700’s.

England and France, fought over the land in the northern

and central parts of North America.

The Seven Years’ War, a global conflict known in America as the French and Indian War, ends with the signing of the Treaty of Paris by France, Great Britain, and Spain.

England winning the war in 1763, and the treaty of Paris gave’s England

total control over the land from the East coast of North America,

The treaty ensured the colonial and maritime supremacy of Britain and strengthened the 13 American colonies by removing their European rivals to the north and the south.

A council or governor appointed by the king of England King George III

governed each of the 13 colonies, which are

Virginia,Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia,Connecticut,Massachusetts Bay, Maryland, South Carolina,New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

In 1754,they began collaborating at the Albany Congress and demand their rights and set up a Continental Congress and with Great Britain with a outbreak of a Revolutionary War in 1775, that eventually lead up to declaring the independence from the Revolutionary War and formed the United States of America in 1776.
